Spring 2020 Buffalo Citizen Police Academy

Buffalo, NY - Mayor Byron W. Brown and Buffalo Police Commissioner Byron C. Lockwood announced that applications are now available to Buffalo residents for the spring 2020 Police and Community Together (P.A.C.T.) Buffalo Citizen Police Academy. P.A.C.T. Buffalo Citizen Police Academy is scheduled to start on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 and continue every Tuesday through June 23, 2020. This eight-week course will meet from 6pm – 9pm at Buffalo Police Headquarters at the Dillon, 68 Court Street, Buffalo, New York 14202.


Mayor Brown stated, “I’m pleased to announce that since the start of this program last year, 51 City residents have graduated from the P.A.C.T. Citizen’s Police Academy. This hands-on program is a great way to increase understanding and communication between our residents and police. By building our relationship with the community we serve, the department hopes to make the City of Buffalo an even greater place to live, work, invest and raise a family.”


The P.A.C.T. Buffalo Citizen Police Academy is a free community education program intended to build lasting relationships between program participants and the Buffalo Police Department, with the ultimate goal of reducing crime and achieving the best police service in the Buffalo community. It is a unique opportunity for citizens who live in the City of Buffalo. A few examples of presentations and topic discussions include:


  • Community Policing & Ride-a-longs
  • Police/Community Relations
  • Basic Law (Penal Law; Criminal Procedure Law)
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Police Investigations
  • Patrol Operations
  • Basic Crime Prevention
  • Tour of BPD Vehicles


Instruction will be presented by subject matter experts and will include virtually every aspect of police work ranging from a study of the New York State Penal Law, demonstrations of many difference law enforcement tools (canine unit, SWAT, CMHT, URRT, CIT, etc.), demonstrations and hands on application. Upon completion of the program, participants will be recognized at a Tuesday evening graduation ceremony and

 

reception hosted by Commissioner Lockwood. Graduates are encouraged to bring family and friends to help honor the occasion. Following graduation day, program alumni will be invited back every year to alumni events, where new and special topics will be presented. It is imperative that citizens understand that this is an INFORMATIONAL program. AT NO TIME SHOULD ANYONE ACT AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT
