The Great American Clean-Up

Great American Clean-up

Mayor Byron W. Brown, the Division of Citizen Services, and Keep America Beautiful invites the Buffalo community to participate in the Great American Cleanup, an annual initiative focused on beautifying our city, homes, and neighborhoods by fostering social responsibility.  Since its inception, the Great American Cleanup has engaged more than 5 million volunteers and participants annually, making it the nation’s largest community improvement program.

The City of Buffalo has participated in the Great American Cleanup since the name was adopted in 1999. Every spring since, the City of Buffalo has organized and encouraged community members to participate in cleanup events such as litter and shore-line pick-up, recycling, and tree planting.

This year, we specifically ask that participants abide by CDC guidelines to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission :

  • Physical distancing of 6ft.
  • Small groups of ten or less
  • Wearing masks when appropriate
  • Frequently washing hands and sanitizing

In order to facilitate participation and mitigate barriers, the Division of Citizen Services will provide the trash bags, masks (limited amount) and coordinate the pick-up of trash bags after individual events.

For trash bag collection, a request for pick-up must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance by calling the 311 resolution and call center.

Registration

Registration for the Great American Cleanup will remain open until August 2020.  Block Clubs, community leaders, public and nonprofit organizations, and Buffalo residents are encouraged to organize an event, recruit volunteers, and register their participation by completing this form
